Lyle Kuyper, age 92, of Algona, passed away Sunday, Feb.  19, 2023, at the Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, Feb. 25 at 10 a.m. at Divine Mercy Catholic Parish - St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Algona. Burial will take place at West Bend Cemetery in West Bend. Military Honors will be conducted by the Iowa Army National Guard Honor Guard and the Algona VFW Post #2541. Visitation will be held on Friday, Feb. 24 from 5 until 7 p.m. at Lentz Funeral Home in Algona.

Lyle Charles Kuyper, the son of Guysbert and Amanda (Harris) Kuyper, was born on May 13, 1930 in Rodman. He graduated from West Bend High School in 1947. Lyle served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged on March 31, 1960. Lyle enjoyed dancing and met Irene Foertsch at a dance at the Plantation. On Aug. 16, 1955, they were united in marriage at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wesley.

Lyle was a farmer all of his life and was active until he turned 89. He enjoyed raising cattle, pigs, chickens and other animals on his farm. Lyle was a member of the Palo Alto Cattleman’s Association and the VFW Post #2541 of Algona. After he retired and moved to Algona he was employed by Hy-Vee pharmacy for 15 years. He enjoyed spending time with his family and adored his great-grandchildren.

Left to cherish Lyle’s memory is his wife of 67 years, Irene; children, Marla Steier of Algona, Tony Kuyper of Tucson, Ariz. and Jerome (Sharla) Kuyper of West Bend; grandchildren, John (Jeannie) Steier, Mark (Maria) Steier and Amanda (Brad) Lemke; and great grandchildren, Henry, Hadley, Charleigh, Kacy, Shaylin and Alice Steier and Aidan and Reagan Lemke. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, two sisters and a son-in-law, Tom Steier.
