Joyce Anderson-Hix, 90 of Algona, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2024, at the Good Samaritan Society in Algona. Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24 at Lone Rock Presbyterian Church. Services will be livestreamed via Lentz Funeral Home’s website: https://www.hdezwebcast.com/show/joyce-hix. Burial will take place at West Bend Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 23 at the Lone Rock Presbyterian Church. Services have been entrusted to Lentz Funeral Home of Algona.
Joyce Lucille Anderson-Hix, the daughter of James and Lucille (George) Truelsen, was born on Feb. 15, 1934, at home on their farm in Pocahontas. Joyce graduated from West Bend High School in 1952. Joyce worked as a cook for restaurants as well as the West Bend Care Center. She was united in marriage to Roger Anderson on June 1, 1952, at the West Bend Methodist Church. She later remarried to Arthur Hix on July 13, 1995, at the Fairmont, Minn. courthouse. Joyce was a member of the Lone Rock Presbyterian Church where she was an elder, and part of Ladies Aid and PWC. She enjoyed gardening and canning, raising boxers, watching birds, reading, quilting, cooking, baking, and visiting with friends and family.
Left to cherish Joyce’s memory are her children, Diane (Gene) Dahlhauser of West Bend, Dwayne Anderson of Algona and Beth (Jeff) Fehr of Whittemore; step-children, Sharon (Doug) Marty of Algona, George (Cindy Harig) Hix of Fenton, Duane (Sandy) Hix of Algona and Janett (Mike) Kline of Eloy Ariz.; daughter-in-law, Cyndi Anderson of Humboldt; step son-in-law, Dennis Johansen of Algona; 28 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; and nine great- great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Roger Anderson and Art Hix; parents; brothers, Kenneth, Nelse, Robert, David and James; sisters, Ella Beth Christensen and Lois Watson; daughter, Eva; son, Dennis; step-son, David; step-daughter, JoAnn, daughter-in-law, Becky; two step-grandsons; and one granddaughter.
