Joseph “Joe” Wagner, age 85 of Wesley, passed away Sunday, Aug. 27, 2023, at his home. Joe’s family will be hosting a Celebration of Life on Sunday, Sept. 10 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Wesley Community Center in Wesley. Services have been entrusted to Lentz Funeral Home of Algona.

Joseph Michael Wagner, the son of Nicholas and Katie (Heiderscheidt) Wagner, was born on June 20, 1938, in Mallard. Joe attended Mallard Schools. In 1960, Joe was united in marriage to Joyce Terwilliger at St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Algona. The couple had three children: Gene, Paul and Cathy. Joe was a grain operator for numerous local elevators until his retirement in 2000.

Joe loved country music and playing his guitar. He even appeared on KVFD’s Barn Dance. Joe had excellent negotiating skills which aided him in his love to trade cars. In his spare time, Joe loved to hunt pheasants, shoot trap and go fishing. He loved his beloved pets: Daisy, Tommy, Molly, Sissy and Snickers. Joe will be remembered for always telling it like it is and delivering the truth!

Left to cherish Joe’s memory are his wife of 62 years and 10 months, Joyce of Wesley; children: Gene (Rose Hoover) Wagner of Algona, Paul (Laurie Thilges) Wagner of Algona and Cathy (Todd) Davis of Grimes; grandson: Trent (Barb) Wagner of Des Moines; granddaughter Jacque (Chris) Myrhe of Burt; and great-grandchildren: Trevon and Onica Smith, Montgomery and Dakota Reher, Dallas Wagner, Chelsea and Emma Moss and Foster and Karsyn Myrhe.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Michael, Johnny, Nickie and Billy Wagner and sisters: Annie Wagner, Florence Frahm, Margaret Rezabek, Genevieve Klein, Katherine Aman, Susie Zeller and Mary Davis.
