Funeral services for JoElla Miller will be held on Saturday, Nov. 9, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at the 1st Presbyterian Church in Lone Rock. Visitation will be held on Friday, Nov. 8 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Oakcrest Funeral Services of Algona and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Burial will be held at Fenton Township Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Little Al Foundation in care of JoElla’s family.
JoElla Helen Miller was born to Joseph and Ella (Ewoldt) Culbertson in Lone Rock, on Feb. 25, 1935. She grew up in the Lone Rock area and graduated from Lone Rock High School in 1953. That same year she married Bernard “Bud” Miller from West Bend.
After Bernard returned from serving in the Korean War, they took over her grandfather’s farm one mile east of Lone Rock and lived there until Bud passed away in 1984. Two years later she married Edward “Ed” Miller, and they were married until his passing in 2022. Following Ed’s retirement, they had moved from his farm into Algona.
JoElla loved sewing, making ceramics, spending time with her grandchildren and spending winters in Texas.
JoElla H Miller, 89, peacefully passed away on Sunday, Nov. 3 at Good Samaritan Society in Algona.
She is survived by three sons, Gene (Teri) Miller of Fenton, Lynn (Myra) Miller of Algona and Gary (Sarah) Miller of Algona; two daughters-in-law, Holly Current of Monroe and Marcia Miller of Fenton; and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Karl (Shellee) Miller and their children Silkee and Denver, Karyn (Fran) Schwagel and their children Ella and Kathryn, Andrew Kronmiller, Michelle (Derek) Bredlow and their children Alana and Haddie, Heather (Roy) Green and their son Remy, Ashley (Kai) Carlson and their son Camden, Scot (Erin) Miller and their children, Madden, Hayden and Braxden, Alicia Miller and her daughter Keely, Jen (Danny) Althoff and their children Nolan and Cecelia, David (Brooke) Miller and their children Brinley, Bennett and Blair, and Erin (Mike) Matheny and their children Levi and Wyatt and Megan Miller. She is also survived by three stepsons and two stepdaughters and their family; three sisters-in-law, Marvel Culbertson, Judy Culbertson and Peggy (Merle) Boomgarden; a brother-in-law, Bart Derrick; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death are her two husbands, her parents; her three brothers, Vernon, Dean and Joseph Culbertson, two sons, Alan and Ryan Miller; a grandson, Alan Miller “Little Al” and a stepdaughter Marcia Boatwright.
