The funeral will be livestreamed on the Divine Mercy Parish YouTube Page. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Oakcrest Funeral Services of Algona.

Jim Schumacher, son of Louis and Geraldine (Sheppard) Schumacher, was born on Oct. 17, 1947. He attended St. Cecelia Academy, graduating from Garrigan High School in 1965. Jim was united in marriage to Janice Ricke on June 22, 1968, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Wesley.

After graduation, he helped his dad at Schumacher Well Drilling and Pump Repair. He purchased the business from his father in 1990, retiring in 2017. Jim loved taking care of his customers. They could call him day or night and he was there to fix their well issue. He always said, “I never worked a day in my life because I do what I love, and love what I do.”

He was a member of the Iowa Water Well Association Board of Directors for nine years, including serving as president in 1988. In 1990, The Iowa Water Well Association presented Jim the Ber Zander Award, which is given to the person who had done the most for the water industry and the people of Iowa that year.

Jim’s family was his pride and joy, especially his grandchildren who held a special place in his heart. Another love of his was cruising in his classic cars, occasionally (ok, often..) laying rubber on the local blacktops. Jim was known for being light on his feet on the dance floor. His favorite dances were the two-step, polka and the waltz. He spent many nights teaching those dances to others. Even after retirement, he spent a lot of his time down at the shop tinkering in his man cave and entertaining friends. When you couldn’t find Jim, he was usually solving all the world’s problems with his childhood best friend, Terry.

Jim Schumacher died peacefully, May 28, 2022, surrounded by his family. He was 74.

He is survived by his wife Janice Schumacher of Algona; two daughters and three grandchildren, Tammy (Joel) Davis of Algona and their children, Isabelle, Sean and Connor; and Stephanie (Brandon Ostwald, Skylar and Preston) Schiltz of Algona; “special son” Brandon (Cassie) Rowley of Algona and their children Liam and Brody; and grand-dogs, Neela and Sasha. He is also survived by five sisters, Judy Haag of Whittemore, Pat Walker of Whittemore, Darlene Weber of Britt, Sheri (Arvid) Boyken of Buffalo Center and Joni (Allan) Peterson of Algona; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; mother and father-in-law George and Curly Ricke; a brother, Merlin Schumacher; two brothers-in-law, Harold Haag and Jerry Walker; grand-dogs Sam and Walter; and his faithful furry companion, Benji.
