September 22, 1951 - December 27, 2023
Visitation for Jerry Garrett, age 72 of Algona, was Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Historic Bruce Funeral Home in Fort Dodge. Following the visitation, there was a service for anyone who would like to speak.
Jerry Dean Garrett was born Sept. 22, 1951, and passed away Dec. 27, 2023. He was a father, a husband, a grandfather, a friend and a brother. A man among men, and a very lucky person.
Jerry was born in Fort Dodge to Robert and Ilene Garrett. He shared a house with two brothers and two sisters, (Bobby, Susan, Pam and Terry). After many years and a little soul-searching, Jerry finally found the love of his life for 36 years, Teresa Ann Haines. This was the woman of his dreams, the woman who helped keep him strong until the very end. Together, they had three amazing children, (Tye Fox, Stacy and Shannon Garrett). Jerry was always known to be a stubborn, outspoken, proud, tough and a loving kind of man. He loved to camp and fish with family and friends, and was always full of so many stories, some of which would sometimes make you question your humor and morals.
In the beginning of his life, Jerry was a troubled young adult that ended up working in boys and girls homes until he had a heart attack in his 40s. After this, he mainly worked with special needs for many years until he decided to retire. After he retired, he loved watching Iowa Hawkeye football and basketball games. Screaming at the TV as loud as possible for them to win. He also filled a room in his house with pictures from the past and present. In his later years, Jerry became more and more of a believer in God and Jesus, but always said you can pray in your own way, anytime, anywhere, and did for his family and friends up until the very end. Jerry was a little crazy sometimes but was still an amazing person that will be loved and missed by many. May he rest in peace.
