September 25, 1937 - April 17, 2025
Eulan “Eulie” Duane Schuller was born on Sept. 25, 1937, in Algona to Thomas and Erna (Naas) Schuller. He was baptized at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Whittemore and confirmed in the faith at Lotts Creek Immanual Lutheran Church. Eulan attended school through the eighth grade at Lotts Creek Parochial School. In 1955, he graduated from Algona High School.
On Jan. 19, 1957, he was united in marriage to Shirley Ackerman. They farmed together for nearly 35 years and raised five wonderful children. They divorced in 1991. He delivered mail initially as a substitute rural mail carrier from 1974-1984 and later as a full-time rural carrier from 1985-1999. His cobbling skills, developed by necessity from farming, were honed into what his children dubbed “Schuller-rigging” through his mail car, race car and classic car repairs and restorations. He doted on his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, many of whom lovingly called him Grandpa Ice Cream in honor of the ice cream outings in the red convertible.
On Jan. 1, 1994, Eulan married Carolyn (Rochleau) Gibbs. They enjoyed playing cards with friends, attending grandchildren’s events and dirt track racing. Eulan was an avid reader, bowler and golfer, a Jeopardy enthusiast and relished old cars, especially his prized 1957 Studebaker Golden Hawk. Eulan was a man of great faith; he loved the Lord, regularly participated in Bible study and read the entire Bible more than five times.
Eulan died at the Titonka Care Center on Maundy Thursday, April 17 at the age of 87. The family extends their deep appreciation to the Titonka Care Center whose staff lovingly cared for him as they would their own family member, and made his last years comfortable and happy.
