Emily Youngworth was born July 16, 1922, in Bode; the daughter of William and Jeanette (Weber) Radil. She grew up in rural Bode and attended Lu Verne schools.
On June 24, 1941, she was united in marriage to Elmer Youngworth in St. Benedict. Shortly after their marriage they moved to Los Angeles, Calif. where she worked on the assembly line at Lockheed. They returned to Iowa where they lived on a farm in Lu Verne until retirement and then moved to town.
Emily cherished spending time with friends and family. She found joy in simple pleasures, from playing cards and enjoying coffee with close friends to shopping and traveling. She enjoyed wintering in Daytona Beach, Fla. with her husband Elmer, and she later found comfort in visiting her son Gary in Maryland where she would spend a couple of weeks. Emily also shared a special bond with her daughter-in-law, Betty, with whom she enjoyed countless hours of shopping and laughter while in Maryland. Emily took great pride in her garden and her pantry was always stocked with her canned goods —peaches, cherries, pears, tomatoes and a wide variety of pickles. Emily also had a playful side, often indulging in trips to the casino where she enjoyed the thrill of the game and the company of friends.
Emily died Thursday, Nov. 21 at West Bend Health and Rehabilitation. She was 102.
She is survived by her son, Gary (Betty) Youngworth of Maryland; grandchildren, Robert Youngworth, Timothy Rike, Tonya Anderson; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Delores Daugard; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death are her parents; husband, Elmer on Dec. 12, 1998; daughter at birth, Faye; daughter, Kay on Oct. 8, 2008; brother, Bill Radil; sisters, Jeanette Godwin, Helen Egel, Luella Shepherd, Joan Diekmann, Mary Brogan, Alice Winegardner, Mildred Stahl and Bernadine Sparks.
