Donald Dean Weydert, the son of Joseph and Genevieve (Leonard) Weydert, was born Oct. 27, 1936, on a farm outside of Humboldt. He grew up east of Livermore on the family farm and attended St. Joseph Catholic School, graduating in 1955. Don served in the United States Army receiving an honorable discharge.
On June 12, 1965, Don was united in marriage to Lucille Christensen at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Livermore. The couple made their home east of Livermore where he farmed until 1983 when they then moved to Gilmore City. Don worked for Humboldt County Secondary Roads for 17 years, retiring in 2007.
Don was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus in Humboldt where he was passionate about the Pro-Life cause. Don was a man of steadfast faith in God, and through prayer, he persevered through many hardships in life. His faith served as a great example to his children. He loved gardening, golfing, watching sports and fishing trips with his family. In his later years, Don enjoyed listening to music and tending to his flowers and vegetable garden.
Don passed away Nov. 1, 2021, at Pocahontas Manor with his family by his side at the age of 85 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lucille; brother, Jerry Weydert; sister, Donna Bormann and brother-in-law, Arvin Christensen.
Left to cherish Don’s memory are his children: Rachel (Dan) Williams of Gilmore City, Michael (Diane) Weydert of Badger, Maria Weydert of Fort Dodge, Nicholas (ReBecka) Weydert of Gilmore City and John (Christina) Weydert of Gilmore City; grandchildren: Taylor (Will) Clough, Morgan, Joe, Claire, Sophie Weydert, Kiera and Kacen Flynn and Lewis Weydert, Emma, Avery, Addison and Tucker Weydert; great-grandchildren, Jade and Elsie Clough and sisters-in-law, Joan Weydert–Baginski and Dorothy Christensen.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. on Nov. 5 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Humboldt. Visitation will be Thursday from 4-7 p.m. at Mason-Lindhart Funeral & Cremation Service in Humboldt and after 9:30 a.m. Friday at church.
