A funeral Mass for Denny was held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 6, 2023, at Divine Mercy Parish – St. Joseph Catholic Church, Wesley. Burial was held in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Visitation was held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, June 5 at Divine Mercy Parish – St. Joseph Catholic Church, Wesley.

Dennis Lee Youngwirth was born May 1, 1946, at St. Ann’s Hospital in Algona, the son of Luke and Rita (Vitzthum) Youngwirth. Denny grew up in Wesley, attended grade school at St. Joseph Catholic School and graduated from Garrigan High School in 1964.

Following high school, Denny was drafted into the United States Army in 1965 and was honorably discharged in 1967. He then worked at the Wesley Elevator for a few years before working for Hormel. Denny retired from Hormel after accomplishing 42 years of employment.

On Oct. 18, 1969, Denny was united in marriage to Mary (Ellie) Ludwig at St. Benedict Catholic Church. They enjoyed 53 years together.

Denny delighted in the simple pleasures of life, finding joy in the games he loved. Euchre, pool, mini golf and throwing horseshoes were among his favorite activities. He loved cruising around the lakes, where he cherished the camaraderie of happy hours with happy people. Denny especially cherished spending time with his grandchildren. Okoboji held a special place in Denny’s heart. The laughter-filled days spent on the lake and the excitement of exploring the scenic beauty brought him immense happiness. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Wesley American Legion.

Denny died Friday, June 2, 2023, at his home in Wesley. He was 77.

He is survived by his wife, Ellie of Wesley; children, Tina (Marty) Jacobsen of Sioux Falls, S.D.; Jess (Amber) Youngwirth of Britt; Cody (significant other, Tracy Voigt) Youngwirth of Algona; grandchildren, Grady and Kendra Jacobsen, and Kipton and Hutton Youngwirth; brother, Tim (Liz) Youngwirth of Bancroft; sister, Lisa Elbert of Chicago; and nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death are his infant daughter Ronda K; parents, Luke and Rita Youngwirth; brother, Tom; sister, Patty; and brother-in-law, Steve Doughan. Denny is also preceded in death by his father and mother-in-law, Spur and Ellen Ludwig; and brother-in-law, Warren Ludwig.
