Dean Francis Boyken

Dean Francis Boyken was born June 16, 1934, in rural Woden, the son of Henry and Schwantje (Loeschen) Boyken. He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Titonka where he was a life-long member. 

He attended schools in Woden and Titonka, where he graduated in 1952. Dean was drafted into the United States Army in 1956 and was honorably discharged in 1958 with rank of E-4 Specialist. 

After his service, he moved back to Woden where he farmed with his dad and brother. He raised sheep and pigs and grew corn, soybeans and oats. He enjoyed bowling in Titonka, taking care of his acreage and visiting his family. Dean lived on his acreage until 2018 when he moved into the Titonka Care Center. 

Dean died March 22, 2022, at Titonka Care Center. He was 87.

He is survived by his brother, Duane (Shirley) Boyken of Mesa, Ariz.; brother-in-law, Virgil Heifner of Atlanta, Ga.; sister-in-law, Neoma Boyken of Titonka; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. 

Dean was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Roger Boyken, and sister, Louise Heifner. 

A funeral service for Dean was held on March 26, 2022, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Titonka. Interment was held in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery with military honors conducted.
