A celebration of life visitation will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, April 30, 2023, at Oakcrest Funeral Services, Algona.

David Wayne Owens was born July 29, 1956, in Winchester, Mass., the son of Richard and Esley Ann (Shives) Owens. Dave traveled with his parents as a child to Japan and France due to his father being in the Air Force before settling in Memphis, Tenn., where Dave graduated high school. After high school, Dave attended the University of Tennessee and graduated with a business degree.

Following in his fathers’ footsteps, Dave enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He was later honorably discharged.

Dave moved to Iowa City where he met the love of his life, Deb Brogan and together they were united in marriage on April 29, 1977. They were blessed with a son and daughter. In 1983, Dave and Deb moved to Algona. Dave worked for many years as the manager for Northwest Federal until retiring due to Multiple Sclerosis.

He loved and was so proud of his hometown of Memphis and loved to travel back every year. Dave also enjoyed playing poker and traveling with friends and family. Dave loved everything about football and even played at college level for the Tennessee Volunteers. He enjoyed talking about football and other sports with his grandsons, Zack and Mason. Dave especially enjoyed spending time with his family and was so proud of all his grandchildren.

Dave died Friday, April 21 at Kossuth Regional Health Center. He was 66.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Deb of Algona; son, Jamie Owens of Algona and his children, Matthew, Caitlyn and Abby; daughter, Melissa (Nate) Carr of Algona and their children, Mason, Zack and Allee; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bob and Sharon Brogan. He is also survived by beloved brothers and sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death are his parents, Richard and Elsey Owens; parents-in-law, Jerry and Virginia Jennings; and brother-in-law, Jeff Brogan.
