David Edward Anderson, the son of Lester and Verna (Nelson) Anderson was born on March 5, 1934, in Boone. He attended Country School in Hamilton County and then went on to graduate from Stratford High School in Stratford in 1952. He joined the Iowa Army National Guard in 1952 and served eight years until his honorable discharge in 1960.

Early in his career he was employed as a bank examiner and insurance salesperson. In 1964, he then began working at Ernie Williams John Deere in Algona as their bookkeeper. He was employed there until 1969 when he and Pat bought into the John Deere dealership in Titonka under the name Schutjer-Anderson Implement. They later purchased the Schutjer’s share in the dealership and renamed it Anderson Implement. He continued his career as owner/dealer for the dealership until they sold the business to Ernie Williams, Ltd. in August 1995. He continued working at the Titonka store as Assistant Operations Manager until his retirement in September 1997.

On June 6, 1958, he was united in marriage to Patricia “Pat” Phelan at Sacred Heart Church in Boone. They celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary this year with a special dinner with family/friends at their acreage. They had two children: John and Laura.

Dave was an active member of the St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Algona serving on various committees/roles. He and Pat delivered Meals on Wheels through their church for many years. He helped establish and served as the President of the Titonka Conservation and Trapshooting Club at Michelson’s Marsh for 50+ years. He also served 17 years as a member of the Kossuth County Conservation Board. Even following his death, he continued to serve and help others by being a tissue donor through the Iowa Donor Network.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing and in later years, woodworking. He and a friend built several pieces of beautiful furniture. As a lifelong trap shooter, he won many awards for his shooting skills. Many years during their retirement, he and Pat traveled in January to Arizona. He enjoyed trap shooting on the winter circuit there. He also enjoyed watching sports and was a lifelong Minnesota Twins and Iowa Hawkeyes fan. In retirement, he was an avid reader and often finished a book every few days.

Left to cherish Dave’s memory are his wife of 66 years, Pat of Algona; children, John Anderson of Titonka, Laura Anderson Rice (Patrick) of Mt. Juliet, Tenn.; and grandchildren, David (Vanessa) Rice of Littleton, Colo., Kristina Rice (Tanner Hinders) of West Des Moines and Jessica Anderson of Philadelphia, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews.
