A funeral service for Charlotte Larson of Algona will be held Thursday, May 8, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at the Algona First United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Britt. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.
Charlotte Ann Larson was born Sept. 10, 1938, in Sexton, daughter of Herman and Emma (Voss) Wise. Charlotte attended Vernon Consolidated School near Renwick graduating from Wesley High School in 1956. She then attended Broad Lawn School of Nursing in Des Moines.
Charlotte was married to Gary Larson on Oct. 4, 1959, at the Wesley United Methodist Church. The couple began their life together in a trailer house parked on the Larson farm in Crystal Lake. In the next few years they would rent a house and land near Thompson and another near Britt until the fall of 1966, when they bought their dream home and farm three miles northwest of Rake. This is where they raised their two children, Lisa and Ryan.
Besides helping on the farm, Charlotte worked as a registered nurse at St. Ann’s Hospital in Britt, the Buffalo Center Hospital and Timely Mission Nursing Home in Buffalo Center and St. Luke’s Nursing Home in Blue Earth, Minn.
After the death of their son Ryan in 1990, they moved to Lander, Wyo. for 10 years where Charlotte worked as director of nursing on an Indian Reservation. They returned to Iowa in 2003 where they built their retirement home near Call Park in Algona. Charlotte enjoyed sewing, camping, outdoor work, canning and freezing. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Algona, Order of Eastern Star Algona Chapter 68 OES and Compassionate Friends.
Charlotte A. Larson died Friday, May 2, 2025, at Homestead Assisting Living in Algona at the age of 86.
She is survived by one daughter, Lisa Ann (Ted) Emmons of Sundance, Wyo.; two grandchildren, Colter Dale (Ani) McDonald of Alpine, Wyo. and Steven Ryan Sellers McDonald of Arvada, Colo.; two sisters, Gloria Jean Bishop of Mt. Pleasant and Ruth Diane Kouski of Des Moines, and many other relatives and close friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Gary on Nov. 28, 2017; a daughter, Dawn Marie in infancy on April 10, 1960, her son Ryan on April 9, 1990; and two brothers-in-law, Jim Bishop and Roland Kouski.
