Ben L. Hefty, age 84, of Humboldt, passed away July 14, 2023, at the Humboldt County Hospital Long Term Care. A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 22, at the United Methodist Church in Lu Verne. Burial will follow at the Lu Verne Township Cemetery. Visitation will take place 5 - 7 p.m., Friday, July 21, at the church.

Ben was born on Nov. 1, 1938, to Henry C. and Mildred Rummens Hefty in Humboldt.  He attended the Vernon Consolidated School. Following school, Ben started farming with his brother. He was united in marriage to Kay Brink on May 28, 1960, at the Lu Verne United Methodist Church.

Along with farming, Ben raised hogs and cattle. He was a rural mail carrier in the Lu Verne area for 32 years. Ben served as a school board member for several years and was very active in the local Lu Verne Community Club. Ben was a lifelong member of the Lu Verne United Methodist Church. Ben was an avid fisherman with many trips to Canada. He enjoyed teaching his grandchildren to snow ski, water ski and fish. Ben spent weekends at Lake Cornelia with family and friends.    

Ben is survived by his wife, Kay, of 63 years; his sons Brent (Corinna) Hefty and Jay (Lisa) Hefty, both of Lu Verne, and daughter-in-law Deb Hefty of Algona; eight grandchildren and spouses; 13 great-grandchildren; one sister; one sister-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son Blaine Hefty; grandsons Aaron and Benjamin Hefty; his parents; four brothers; three sisters; and his parents-in-law.
