A funeral service for Al was held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Turner and Pastor Cowell officiating. The funeral service was livestreamed on Trinity Algona Youtube Page. Burial was held in East Lawn Cemetery. Visitation was held one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church, Algona POW Camp or the American Heart Association in Al’s name.
Allan Bonde, son of Harry and Dora (Nielsen) Bonde was born on Nov. 19, 1938. He was schooled and raised in the Rutland and Bradgate area. Al was a mechanic at Lindhart Chevrolet in Humboldt and at Mike’s garage in Livermore. In 1967, he married Lucille Gade at Trinity Lutheran Church in Algona. He opened his own business, Al’s Northside Texaco in May of 1967. In May of 1978, he opened Al’s Repair and continued to operate it until December 2019 when he retired.
Al was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Algona. He served as a member of the video team for Sunday service. Al was a member of the Algona Municipal Utilities board of trustees for 33 years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golf and telling stories. He was a photographer and took many pictures for himself and friends developing them in the darkroom of his basement. Al and Lucille enjoyed traveling and prospecting for gold. They owned a small airplane that they both learned to fly.
Al died Monday, April 10 at MercyOne North Iowa Hospice.
Allan is survived by his wife, Lucille; sons Jim and Daryl (Ruthie); grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Eunice (Ralph) Wiechmann; brothers-in-law, Duane Lieb and Gerald Pedersen.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Gerald (Edith), Gaylord (Pauline) and Burton (Joan); sisters, Beryl (Milton) Davis and Annice (Jim) Patton; and sisters-in-law, Helen Lieb and Dorothy Pedersen.
