SWEA CITY — Voters in the North Kossuth School District are heading back to the polls to decide on a new voter-approved PPEL.
The vote is slated for Feb. 6, noon to 8 p.m., in three different locations: Ledyard Community Building, Bancroft City Hall and Swea City Library Meeting Room.
In September, the voters rejected passage of the voted physical plant and equipment (PPEL) levy. The vote failed 119-98.

After several predicted snowstorms failed to impact Kossuth County with ferocity, the long-awaited first big snowstorm of the season hit on Monday, Jan. 22. 
Anticipating the storm, schools across the county closed their doors along with numerous businesses and county offices with snow ordinances taking effect in almost every town. 

ALGONA — There are still several steps that need to be completed before the Algona Municipal Airport can finish its expansion. One of those steps took place during the Jan. 8 Algona City Council meeting, when a public hearing was held to discuss the details of the project and answer questions.

WHITTEMORE  — The 18th annual Whittemore Chili Cook-Off was held once again on Saturday, Jan. 20 at the St. Michael’s Parish Center in Whittemore.
Taste testing began at 5 p.m. with over 13 contestants showing up for the event. Displays varied in design from simple to elaborate with some contestants taking the time to create their own rustic farm themed displays or decorate with giant Emojis.

Brandon and Samantha (Helgeson) Hansen of Algona are the proud parents of a baby girl, Ellie Doris, born on Tuesday, Jan. 9 at Kossuth Regional Health Center. She weighed eight pounds three ounces and was 21 inches long at birth. Maternal grandparents are Clayton and Shirleen Helgeson of Emmetsburg. Paternal grandparents are Dale and Deb Mueller of Algona. Great grandparent is Paul Haverly of Algona. 

Each story of hardship and trials is varied in circumstance and outcome, however, many times these things bring people together and generosity overflows. That is exactly what happened in the case of Walker Rosenmeyer, when he and his family took a rough year and transformed it into helping cheer up sick children across the area and state. 

On February 2, a new machine will be delivered to KRHC which can further women’s health. Through the support of the Kossuth Regional Health Center Foundation, KRHC is acquiring a new, state-of-the-art 3D mammography machine, GE Senographe Pristina.
