ALGONA — Over 600 people filled the Bishop Garrigan High School parking lot on Saturday evening, munching on fresh donuts, watching children play on inflatables and perform on stage all the while preparing for a 3.1 mile trek on the AlGLOna 5K Run/Walk route.
Law Enforcement Officers were speckled across the east side of Algona, blocking off and redirecting traffic, unaware of the night’s festivities. More than one vehicle had to turn around as the run began.

Carter Nath, a pianist and young entrepreneur, owning Carter’s Piano Service, bought out Bill Hobson’s piano tuning business last November. 
Serving customers from beyond Kossuth County, Nath is one of the only piano tuners within a 50-minute drive of Algona. “It is a bigger territory than I can cover alone,” He remarked. 
Nath does not shy away from traveling to tune pianos, scheduling multiple tunings in the same vicinity at once. 

ALGONA — Over the past eight years that Valeria Newhouse has been president of Iowa Lakes Community College, there has been a big push on helping students graduate with employable skills and not leave with a “ton” of debt.
“The focus is on some education beyond high school, but not necessarily a baccalaureate degree for everyone,” she said. “Community colleges really fit that bill. That’s good for us.

Carol Campe was born on May 1, 1957 and will be celebrating her 60th birthday this year. Her family, including her sons Kody and Kyle (Laura), along with her grandchildren Aydan and Landon, are asking family and friends to wish her a “Happy Birthday”. 

Mary Ann Kirschbaum will be celebrating her 90th birthday on May 6th. Her family, including her husband, Leo, and their children, Kenny (Jayne) of Garner, Allan (Tamara) of Grants Pass, Oreg., Roger of Davenport, Craig (Deb) of Aurora, Colo., along with their grandchildren, are encouraging family and friends to shower her with cards. When the sun sets and the stars come out, the City of Algona will begin to glow. 
Hundreds of community members have already signed up to participate in Saturday’s 4th Annual AlGLOna 5K GLO Run/Walk. 
Four years ago, the Leadership Algona Class planned and hosted the first GLO Run/Walk as a way to give back to the community by raising funds for the Algona Recreational Trial. 

What does it take to get grown men to don high heels and parade down the main street of a town? A good cause. 
In honor of National Sexual Assault Awareness Month, gentlemen from across the area banned together to show awareness of the tragic situations of victims and their families, by joining in the ninth annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event. 

After 76 years of lying unidentified in a mass grave in Hawaii, Navy Fireman 1st Class William Henry Kennedy, will be laid to rest next to his mother at the Buffalo Township Cemetery.  
Kennedy was the son of William Henry Kennedy Sr. and Elizabeth Martha Erickson Tienan Kennedy. 
Growing up in the Titonka area, he attended business school in Texas under the sponsorship of his uncle and decided to make the Navy a career. 

ALGONA — Algona High School students danced the night away at the ‘Midnight Masquerade’ at the 2017 prom at Algona High School gym on Saturday, April 29.
Michael Jensen and Angel Block, two 11th graders, were enjoying everything around them in preparation for the Grand March. Both said they had been to the prom the year before.
“I like the whole thing,” Jensen said. “I just remember all of the pictures being taken.”
