50th anniversary

Phil and Cherilyn (Kerber) Ruger were married August 3, 1968 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Fenton. They will celebrate their 50th anniversary this year. They have lived near Fenton their entire married life. They farmed and operated a dairy for 30 years. Phil then worked for Mayo Health in Fairmont for 14 years in radiology. Their children Amy, and Paul (Laura), and grandchildren Dylan and Grady encourage friends and family to shower the couple cards and well wishes.

65th anniversary

Dale and Lucile (Lauck) Mains were married August 2, 1953 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Whittemore, and will celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary this year. Their children, Wanda and Steve Schwier of Atlantic, Donna Mains and Dan Coleman of Hornerville, MO, Lynette and Kurt Hankins of Algona, and Scott and Lou Mains of Lewiston, ID, encourage friends and loved ones to shower them with cards to help them celebrate.

Founders' Day 2018

ALGONA ¬– They weren’t ghosts or creatures coming to haunt the city before the Founders’ Day celebration, they were just voices from the past.
For the first time, the actors of the stories were descendants of those they were portraying in Riverview Cemetery on Thursday, July 12.
Roughly 100 people who attended the program saw the lives of Ambrose Call and his wife, Nancy Henderson Call, Clark Scuffham, Dorothy Comley Boldridge, and Arthur, Carl, and Fred Hagg come to life.

Founders' Day 2018

ALGONA — Greg Hilbert and Ron Reefer were rolling out a Trostle Chassis #101 for the first time on Saturday during the Car and Tractor Show at the Kossuth County and Agriculture Motorsports Museum.
“This is the first time it has been out in three years,” said Hilbert, who has spent that time rebuilding the race car. “It deserves recognition. It will be a really cool piece when it is finished.”

Prairie storefront building gets a new paint job

The excitement of the Dodge Street renovation seems to spurring a series of storefront upgrades.

On Wednesday, July 11, Jan Ricke could be found painting the storefront of one of the buildings owned by the Kossuth County Historical Society (KCHS).

Governor finds out firsthand about Leadership Algona

ALGONA – Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds and Lt. Gov. Adam Gregg gave a thumbs up to the program after learning more about – and seeing evidence of – Leadership Algona during a stop in the community last Thursday.
The state's top executives visited Innovations Salon & Spa, Cafe Boutique, and Repeat Boutique, where they met with owner Stacey Besch and Algona Area Chamber of Commerce executive director Vicki Mallory to discuss the chamber's 15-year-old leadership program.

60th anniversary

Richard L. and Corinne C. Rasmussen were married on July 26, 1958, in Clarendon Hills, Illinois. They will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary this year! The couple has resided in the rural Burt area for 50 years and is where the reside today. It was in 1968 when the family moved to Burt to start farming. Richard still runs his seed business and helps on the farm. Before retiring from her teaching career, Corinne taught school for several local area schools for close to 20 years.

ABATE brings bikers, opportunities for Algona

The ABATE Freedom Rally brought upwards of 8,000 bikers to Algona this year, and residents and businesses welcomed them in a variety of ways.
Bikers made their way past the filled parking lots of the Chrome, HyVee, and K-Mart into the business district of Algona, visiting businesses downtown and heading to the breakfasts served around the city.
Algona Faith has been serving breakfast to rally-goers for about 15 years.
