Being familiar with the nursing group and excited to work with a team prompted Lynzie Nilles to become agency administrator for Community Health and Hospice at the Kossuth County Regional Health Center.
Nilles replaces Erin Shaw. Nilles, who previously worked as the director of nursing at the Windsor Manor, started Dec. 6.

Hy-Vee will open its new wine and spirits store next to the Algona Hy-Vee at 1500 Hwy. 169 N.
The move will expand the facility from 2,800 square feet to 11,500 feet, more than four times the current size.

The Algona Family YMCA has played a prominent role in the Algona community. Executive director Greg Bradley believes there are at least three areas where the YMCA and its staff have made a major impact.
"I think the YMCA has always been what it is today. We are just doing a better job of explaining and trying to educate the public on what we do and how we give back," said Bradley.

Effective Dec. 4, Kossuth Regional Health Center (KRHC) went under a Level One visitor restriction. This means visitors with respiratory or flu-like symptoms are restricted from visiting hospital patients, including newborn babies.

Mike Bearden, CGA engineer, told the Algona Airport Commission Dec. 10 that a new hangar was completed at the Algona Municipal Airport.
Bearden completed a walk-through and had 15-amp outlets replaced with 20-amp outlets, but they still need to clean siding and seal joints.

The Kossuth County Conservation Board (KCCB) recently completed acquisition of approximately 70 acres in the southeast part of the county for wildlife habitat and outdoor recreation.
The tract is located in Section 30 of Prairie Township, about four miles south of Sexton on the east side of County Road P60.

Christmas is less than a week away. While it is normally a festive occasion for many, there are still some who have a hard time dealing with the holidays for one reason or another.
Courtney Cook, social environmental behavior health coordinator for Prairie Lakes Area Education Agency, said it is important for those in the school system to be aware of how teachers approach the holidays with their students.

Santa Claus arrived on the afternoon of Saturday, Dec. 14, to conclude the two-day Santa Day festivities in Fenton on Friday and Saturday.
Throughout the morning, the Fenton Forwards 4-H Club made goodies, and children and elderly citizens visited the Fenton Public Library for cinnamon rolls and coffee and to read books and visit.

The First United Methodist Church in Algona hosted Santa's Family Workshop Saturday, Dec. 7, from 1 to 3 p.m.
Sara Curtis started the event when she moved to Algona 19 years ago. The event was meant to give families a couple of hours to get into the Christmas spirit, according to Curtis. She prepares different stations with 100-125 crafts for kids to create.

For a while, Joe and JoAnn Harren wondered if their dream of opening J&J Custom Meats would come true. It did on Friday, Dec. 6 when a ribbon cutting ceremony officially opened the meat locker on the west end of Whittemore's main street.
"There was a process getting everything built and going," said Joe Harren. "We're excited."
