Farmers National Company, announced that Jim Franzen, AFM, Algona, was recently presented the Farmers National Company Presidential Circle Award for his outstanding efforts in real estate sales.

Franzen, a farm manager and real estate sales agent with Farmers National Company, received the company’s top award for real estate sales in 2021. He began working with Farmers National Company in 2011.

Jackson Cade Thul

Devin Thul and Destiny Smith of Algona announce the birth of their son, Jackson Cade, on March 15, 2022, at the Kossuth Regional Health Center. Jackson weighed 6 pounds, 12 ounces and was 19 inches long. Jackson is welcomed home by a sister, Scarlett.

Maternal grandparent is Dana Smith of Cedar Rapids. Paternal grandparents are Elizabeth Nichols of Seymour and Don and Michelle Thul of Algona.

ALGONA—Iowa Lakes Community College will offer a premiere showing of a documentary about the Algona Brownies baseball team, entitled “They Were Champions All,” on April 4, from 1 to 2 p.m. The showing of the 30-minute film will be followed by a question and answer session with two of the film’s three producers who will be on the Algona campus. This event is open to the public.

ALGONA—Submit your original poem to the library for the Kossuth Garden of Poets poetry contest by March 31. The contest is open to all Kossuth County residents and students.

Divisions include adult, high school, middle school and grade school, with prizes for first, second and third in each division. Winners will be notified in April as a celebration of National Poetry Month.

Iowa’s second attempt to criminalize unauthorized surveillance inside agricultural facilities has been ruled unconstitutional by a federal judge.

KOSSUTH COUNTY—The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) will be conducting prescribed burns this spring on wildlife management areas managed by the Iowa DNR’s Prairie Lakes Wildlife Unit in Clay, Palo Alto, Emmet, Kossuth, Humboldt and Buena Vista counties.
