Klee at the helm of C.A.R.E. Team

One of Ally Klee’s main goals as the new Kossuth County C.A.R.E. Team director is to reach a younger demographic that may not be aware that the C.A.R.E. Team exists. Klee said there are so many younger people and young mothers who could be benefiting from the C.A.R.E. Team that are not utilizing it. 

Dr. Poeppe appears on Court TV

Mark Poeppe, owner of Poeppe Expert Psychological Services in Clive, made his appearance on the new TV show, Someone They Knew, which aired on Court TV last Sunday night. The episode, Hometown Hero, featured the 2009 shooting death of Parkersburg coach Ed Thomas who was shot by former student Mark Becker. 

Frankl is new drum major for UI

IOWA CITY—On Saturday, March 26, Iowa University selected Christian Frankl as the next drum major of the 142nd Hawkeye Marching Band (HMB). Frankl’s parents are Jerry Frankl who grew up on a farm by Irvington and his mother Amy (Arndorfer) was raised near Wesley. Both are graduates of Garrigan.

Bolerjack concert in Burt 

BURT—Award winning Christian music duo, Blake and Jenna Bolerjack will be in concert at Burt Presbyterian Church in Burt at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 3. As husband and wife, Blake and Jenna meld their voices to create a signature, velvety blend. Their music reflects their personalities, a bubbly mix of classic and modern styles with a big sound that is energetic, happy and inspiring. They also will share their testimonies about how even in dark times God never leaves you.

O’Reilly Auto Parts helps the fight

 

 

O'Reilly Auto Parts store in Algona donated $200 to the Kossuth County Cancer Support Foundation to assist those battling cancer in Kossuth County.

CHIPS donation to the Algona Public Library

The CHIPS Woodworking Club has made a $500 donation to the new children's librarian, Brianna Temple. Temple plans to use the donation toward providing programs  for the youth in the community.

Week 10 brought the second legislative deadline when a bill must pass on the floor of one chamber to remain live for the session. It was a generally slower week for me with the exception of Wednesday.

Iowans’ weeks of unemployment benefits would be reduced by bill

Iowans would collect 16, not 26, weeks of unemployment benefits in most circumstances under a bill the state House passed Wednesday.

Individuals laid off due to business closure when Iowa’s “off” indicator is in effect would receive 26 instead of 39 weeks of benefits.

Algona teenager killed in crash

DAKOTA CITY—The Iowa State Patrol reported it investigated a one-vehicle accident that resulted in the deaths of two teenagers. It occurred at 230th Street and Nevada Avenue just southeast of Dakota City at 6:19 Saturday morning.

Throwback: Pretty play

This week’s photo isn’t a mystery but maybe it will stir up some of your own childhood memories. And maybe you’ll recognize some of the names. Little folks dressed up just like grown ups to present the play “Tom Thumb’s Wedding” according to the newspaper archives from April 2, 1913, at the Call Opera House. The Congregational Ladies Aid Society directed the performance.
