Residents question Kossuth County pipeline safety, emergency response

Questions about emergency response times and safety plans were voiced during a recent public meeting by locals who live in the path of a proposed carbon dioxide pipeline in southern Kossuth County.

Livestock removed from Kossuth County animal ordinance

It appears livestock will no longer be subject to a proposed animal ordinance in Kossuth County.

The Kossuth County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to direct the county attorney to remove references to livestock in the ordinance. Going forward, the proposed regulations — which are still under development and not finalized — will now only apply to domestic animals, such as dogs and cats.

Farms and land in farms highlights

The number of farms in the United States for 2024 is estimated at 1,880,000, down 14,950 farms from 2023. The number of farms decreased in all sales classes except the $1,000,000 or more sales class. In 2024, 48.1 percent of all farms had less than $10,000 in sales and 78.9 percent of all farms had less than $100,000 in sales. In 2024, 9.8 percent of all farms had sales of $500,000 or more.

Ministerial fund running low

For many years, the Algona Area Ministerial Association has maintained a fund for the primary purpose of assisting people passing through Algona and Kossuth County with a tank of gas, an overnight stay at a local hotel or a meal or two. They have worked closely with law enforcement to assist people with these needs.

To be eligible for the Dean’s List, students must have earned a GPA of 3.5 or higher during the Fall 2024 semester at Drake.

To be eligible for the President’s List, students must have earned a perfect 4.0 GPA during the Fall 2024 semester at Drake.
