IOWA FALLS—Sixteen Algona FFA members participated at the 2022 North Central District FFA Soil/Land judging competition on September 28.
Algona had four teams entered into the competition with Algona #1 winning the competition and qualifying for the Iowa FFA State Soil/Land judging competition which will be held on the campus of Iowa State University on October 15.
Overall there were 61 teams and 209 individuals who participated in the event.
ALGONA—Dr. Josiah Brinkley gave the medical report at the Kossuth Regional Health Center Board of Trustees meeting on Monday, September 26. Dr. Brinkley reported the volume of clinic visits have been higher than normal for this time of year.
An early flu season and allergy season are contributing to the increase in clinic visits. It was reported KRHC is also seeing a decline in COVID-19 numbers.
Kossuth County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) will be holding informational meetings in communities throughout October about a public measure that would make additional EMS funding available in Kossuth County.
Kossuth County EMS administrator Phil Albers will offer a short presentation about EMS becoming an essential service, followed by time for questions.
ALGONA—An electric vehicle charging station with two electric vehicle charging ports will be available for public use soon in Algona.
The charging station, which will be owned by Algona Municipal Utilities, should be in place by early November in downtown Algona. Plans are to place two charger stalls in the southeast corner of the new Moore and Call Street parking lot.
Kidstop Childcare and Preschool Annual Fall Fundraiser will be held on Wednesday, October 12 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Summit Center Cafeteria in Bancroft, free-will donation, serving hamburgers, hot dogs and pulled pork, take-out meals available, proceeds going toward Kidstop Childcare and Preschool activities and supplies.
ALGONA—Algona Senior Center will be accepting donations of new or gently used coat and/or outerwear (mittens, gloves, scarves, snowpants) for a coat drive through October 31 at the center.
People in need of these items can begin picking them up at the center on November 1 from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. Appointments can be made for those who need to come for pick-up after 2 p.m. by calling the senior center at 515-295-7956.
ALGONA—Veterans were remembered at the September 13 meeting of the Algona Chapter of The Daughters of the American Revolution conducted by Regent Linda Erpelding at the First UMC in Algona. Committee reports followed.
The Veteran Remembrance Project honors the military service of veterans in Kossuth County. DAR extends gratitude to the families of these Veterans as“We will always remember”.
DES MOINES— Harvest was in full swing with little or no precipitation allowing farmers 6.7 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending October 2, according to the USDA, National Agricultural Statistics Service. Fieldwork included harvesting row crops, chopping silage, and some fourth cutting of hay.
DES MOINES—On September 1, there were 23.4 million hogs and pigs on Iowa farms, according to the latest USDA, National Agricultural Statistics Service. Inventory was up 2 percent from the previous quarter but down 3 percent from the previous year.
Brandon and Rosalie (Ihde) Ruhnke announce the birth of their son, River William, on September 25, 2022, at the Kossuth Regional Health Center. He weighed 6 pounds, 1 ounce and was 20 inches long. River is welcomed home by a brother, Declan.
Maternal grandparents are Penny and Stuart Ihde of Faribault, Minn. Paternal grandparents are Bob and Norma Ruhnke of Algona.
