ALGONA—Thirteen members of the Algona Middle School Band were selected to participate in the North Central Iowa Bandmasters Association (NCIBA) District Honor Band Festival, which was held at Clear Lake Middle School on Saturday, November 12.

Public measure passes in Kossuth County

Emergency Medical Services (EMS) will become an essential service in Kossuth County, following a 63 percent approval by Kossuth County voters in the November 8 General Election.

KOSSUTH COUNTY—Morgan Kelly, 2022-2023 Kossuth 4-H County Council President, welcomed everyone to the 2021-2022 Kossuth County 4-H Awards banquet Sunday, Nov. 13 to celebrate their accomplishments and recognize the hard work the Kossuth County 4-H members have done in the past year, as well as show appreciation to the adult volunteers and their commitment to “make the best better”.

Mark your calendars for the annual live greeting card window event set for Monday, November 28 from 6:30-8 p.m. on State Street in downtown Algona.

In addition to the live greeting card windows, the Algona Chamber of Commerce sponsored event will feature holiday carolers, hot cider, hot chocolate, popcorn and snacks.

Algona Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Vicki Mallory said this is the 32nd year for the holiday tradition.

November is National Diabetes Month. While over 34 million adults in the U.S. have some form of diabetes, one in four are unaware or have not yet been diagnosed. November is annually recognized as Diabetes Month to increase awareness about the risk factors, symptoms, and types of diabetes.

This group of Veterans from a wounded warrior battalion at Camp Lejeune, N.C. spent time in the greater Lakota area from November 7-12 for events with Hunting with Heroes. The group spent days hunting and assisted with the drive-through meal and gift distribution event on Friday, Veterans Day in downtown Lakota. All their airplane fares, lodging, meals, guns and ammunition were donated by sponsors.

The Algona Area Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting at West Vendee last Friday, November 11.

Owner Nicole Taffe explained the name came about because it is on the west side of town and Vendee because the items in the store come from a variety of local vendors. Taffe bought the boutique from Sierra Buchanan and moved in  five weeks ago. Taffe liked Buchanan’s idea of using different vendors and supporting local businesses.

ALGONA—Thanksgiving is just around the corner. Plans are being finalized for the annual Algona Community Thanksgiving Dinner on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 24.

The feast will include turkey with dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy, corn, cole slaw, rolls and homemade desserts. The dinner is open to everyone. This year there will be two options: either drive through pickup or home delivery.

Head to Bancroft on November 28 if you’d like to do a little Christmas caroling. Meet at Bob Boland Ford at 5:30 p.m. and jump on their lighted and decorated hay wagon to take you around town bringing joy to residents of that city.

The city of Bancroft will be having their holiday light parade and Christmas tree lighting on Tuesday, November 29 at 6:30 p.m. in downtown Bancroft.

Christmas in Titonka will be held on Saturday, December 3 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Titonka Community Club. A variety of vendors and crafters will have booths set up for all your Christmas shopping needs. There will also be fire truck rides with Santa Claus, Christmas crafts for kids, business Christmas tree decorating contest and a free will donation pulled pork/hot dog meal from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
