Maxine Haas will celebrate her 90th birthday on Feb. 22. Her family is planning a card shower in her honor.

Krue Michael Kollasch

Chris and Jackie Kollasch of Whittemore announce the birth of their son, Krue Michael, on February 8, 2024, at the Kossuth Regional Health Center. He weighed 9 pounds and was 20 inches long.

Euchre results

 

ALGONA—Results from euchre play at Pep’s on Feb. 6 were first - Roger Radig and Gayle Meyer, 82; second place - George Reinhart and Justin Tickle, 79; third place - Dean and Linda Frideres, 78; and most loners - Roger Radig and JoAnn Hildman, tied with six.

Door prize was won by Millie Fox. Euchre play will resume again on Feb. 20.

KRHC Board of Trustees re-elect officers with many years of tenure

ALGONA—Kossuth Regional Health Center Board of Trustees elected officers during a January board meeting. The officers re-elected all have served for many years on the KRHC board.

Tom Geelan was re-elected as board chairperson. Geelan has been a board member since 1992. Brenda Bormann, a board member since 2006, was re-elected to continue as board secretary.

point average

MANKATO, MINN.—Greta Lampe of Algona earned high honor list academic recognition for the 2023 fall semester at Minnesota State University in Mankato

Students qualify for the high honor list by achieving a 4.0 straight “A” average. Undergraduate students must be enrolled for at least 12 credit hours for the semester to qualify for academic honors.

Henry’s Heroes deliver “Dream Kits” for children

WEST DES MOINES—Through its "Henry's Heroes" program, representatives from the Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation and Iowa Select Farms recently delivered 500 "Dream Kits" to organizations that help children who are being rehomed due to unsafe and unstable family environments.

Sugar has been linked to many health problems including cardiovascular disease, obesity and high blood pressure.

Many Americans consume large amounts of sugar from sugar sweetened beverages, baked goods, candies, cereals and desserts.

Dick Deitering Memorial to award scholarship

The family of Dick Deitering has announced that scholarship applications are now available for 2024 for persons attending post-secondary trade/vocational programs. The forms are available at North Union, North Iowa, Bishop Garrigan and Algona High Schools as well as at Deitering Bros., Inc. in Bancroft.

Students get a taste of courtroom drama

This year Algona High School decided to bring back a fun activity for students to participate in, Mock Trial. In Mock Trial, students study a fake court case given to them. At the competition, they become the lawyers and witnesses fighting for their side of the case. After they prepare cases for both the prosecution and defense, they will present in front of a judge, like a real court case!

Harvest proclamation extended through Feb. 23

DES MOINES—Governor Kim Reynolds has signed an extension of the proclamation relating to the weight limits and transportation of grain, fertilizer, and manure.
