Emerson Waltz, a senior at Algona High School, is one of three Iowa students who have been selected as finalists for the National STEM Challenge. For the past two years Waltz  has been working on the development of a fuel made completely out of plastic waste. This year, she was working on making the fuel more efficient and affordable by testing different catalysts. She worked with Iowa State University to complete this research.
