ALGONA—There are approximately 42 to 45 miles of streets in Algona and Kurt Nielsen has spent a 40 year career working with a crew to maintain and improve each and every street. The soon to be 62-year-old Nielsen retired as the City of Algona Street Superintendent in February.

Nielsen has lived most of his life in Algona. In high school, he spent a summer working for the street department.
