Council approves Urban Forest Utility fee

ALGONA—At its regular meeting on Feb. 19, the Algona City Council voted to adopt a new ordinance establishing an Urban Forest Utility to support the cost of managing and maintaining public trees.

The ordinance (City Code Chapter 13.28) restricts the use of funds generated by the fee for only costs associated with:

Planting, maintaining, and removing trees on city property, such as parks, cemeteries, green spaces and right of ways.
