Seely-Walsh Post #425 Legion Riders Wing Ding and Auction will be held on Saturday, Feb. 24 at the Legion Hall in Whittemore. An assorted flavors of chicken wings with sides will be served beginning at 5 p.m. until gone, free will donation, Raffles and auction starts at 6 p.m. until the items are gone. To donate items call 712-298-0167. Live Music at 8 p.m. by “Acoustic Republic”.

Dick Dale showcase dedicated

 

ALGONA—The Algona Area Chamber of Commerce held a coffee last Friday morning at the Ed & Betty Wilcox Performing Arts Center to dedicate the Dick Dale Showcase. Dick Dale was and is a Hometown Hero, born and raised in Algona. Dick and his wife Marguerite had four children. Their son Ric came from Ohio to attend the dedication. The memorabilia in the showcase will be changed periodically so check it out each time you go.

Speech students go to state contest

AHS speech students had an amazing turnout at district group speech this year, with six groups representing AHS as they moved onto state speech. State took place on the third of February at Spencer High School.

Dawg Pound Sound at Drake

On Saturday, January 20, Algona’s Dawg Pound Sound traveled to Des Moines to join the Drake University Pep Band during a basketball game. A few weeks earlier, they were invited by the director of the band because Mr. Liebl is friends with their director. Mr. Liebl accepted the invitation.

People flocked to Wesley for steaks

It took many helping hands to feed the masses that showed up for the Wesley Firemen’s annual steak fry that was held on Saturday, Feb. 10. In the photos from top to bottom: Brady Otis and Logan Rosenmeyer cut the steaks to be grilled.

CCCU donates $75,000 to fire and police departments

 

FORT DODGE-—Citizens Community Credit Union recently awarded $75,000 to the fire and police departments that serve its local branch communities of Fort Dodge, Algona, Belmond, Estherville, Lake Mills, Storm Lake and Spirit Lake, and the surrounding areas. Guided by the credit union philosophy of “People Helping People”, Citizens believes in making a difference and wanted to show appreciation for service organizations that align with this philosophy.

EMMETSBURG—For Laura Reinders, the services of her local Area Education Agency helped her twins from the very beginning—and it continues to be an important part of their lives.

Fun and smiles in Titonka

A fundraiser was held in Titonka last month to help fund Titonka Indian Day activities.

The Titonka Fire Department served refreshments and Titonka Community Club had homemade bars, walking tacos and hot dogs.

Bringing agriculture to the classroom

North Central Iowa Ag in the Classroom educator Kay Kern (shown above) and Kossuth County Farm Bureau Office Assistant Sandy Sarchet visited West Bend-Mallard School on Wednesday, Jan. 31 to start an embryology lesson with second graders.

Matt Gent will lead IPPA

CLIVE—Washington County pig farmer Matt Gent is the new president of the Iowa Pork Producers Association (IPPA). He took over the role during the organization’s annual meeting in Des Moines in January. Gent and his family own a farrow-to-finish swine enterprise called Prairie Pork near Wellman. They also grow corn and soybeans.

Hannah Frankl and Ryan Mills are planning to marry in a ceremony on August 10 in  Okoboji.

Hannah is the daughter of Carl Frankl of Algona and Heather Wolf of St. Joe. Her grandparents are Pam and Red Frankl of Irvington.

Ryan is the son of Bob and Ruth Mills of Ames. His grandparents are Ed and Elma Lynn of Council Bluffs.
