New fire hall allows better response time

Lead Summary

WEST BEND – Firefighters are hoping a new fire hall along Highway 15 will allow for better response time when a disaster hits the area.
“Timing is always a factor in an emergency situation,” said West Bend Fire Chief Evan Winkelhorst. “It will be safer for the firefighters.”
Winkelhorst added that the fire department has outgrown its existing firehouse with equipment and personnel. “Just because of the needs of the department, we needed to grow. We need more equipment to serve our community.”
Currently, the fire department has two pumper trucks, a tanker truck, two mini-pump trucks and an equipment van. There are 20 firefighters that share territory with Bode, Rodman, Otteson, Whittemore and a portion of Mallard’s territory.
