ALGONA — Funeral services for Myrna Diekmann will be held at 10 a.m., on Saturday, June 24, 2017, at the First United Methodist Church in Algona with Rev. Mike Orthel officiating. Burial will be in the East Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Friday, June 23, 2017, at Oakcrest Funeral Services in Algona.
Myrna Kay Diekmann was born March 8, 1934, the daughter of Henry and Lenora (Popkes) Kiewiet. She attended Buffalo Center school and graduated in 1951. Then she attended Mankato Commercial College and worked a short time for Standard Oil in Mankato. She worked at Pharmacists Mutual Insurance from 1952-1957 and returned to work in 1966, retiring in 1991 as Vice President of Commercial Lines. She received the Employee of the Year Award in 1987.
Myrna enjoyed walking, biking, water aerobics, golfing, bowling, reading, crocheting and knitting. She also enjoyed attending sporting events especially when her grandchildren were participating. 
Myrna was a 50-year member of the First United Methodist Church and lifetime member of the Kossuth Regional Health Center Auxiliary.
Representing the Buffalo Center band, Myrna was crowned Queen of the Algona Band Day Festival in 1950. It was here she first met her future husband, Robert “Bob” Diekmann and Myrna were married March 21, 1953, at the First Baptist Church in Buffalo Center. The couple spent their entire married life in Algona where they raised their three daughters. Upon retirement in 1991 they spent their winters in South Texas and Arizona.
Myrna died Wednesday, June 14, 2017, at her home in Algona. She was 83.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Bob Diekmann of Algona; daughters, Connie (Loren) Duchman of Cedar Falls; Kathy Petersen of Norwalk; Vicki (Harvey) Aikman of McAllen, TX; grandchildren, Dr. Kyle Duchman and Dr. Bryce Duchman of Iowa City; Allison Duchman of Denver; Joe (Kelli ) Petersen of Des Moines; Dr. Jacob Petersen of Phoenix; Dr. Ashley Aikman of Fort Worth, Texas; Ian (Lisette) Aikman of San Marcos, Texas; sister, Jan Larson of Allen, Texas; brother, Dave (Jan) Kiewiet of Buffalo Center and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Her parents preceded her in death.
In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the First United Methodist Church, the Algona Family YMCA or the Kossuth Regional Health Center.
