TITONKA — Merle Teeter, age 85 of Algona, passed away Friday, June 30, 2017, at the Titonka Care Center. Funeral services were held on Monday, July 3, 2017, at 2 p.m., at Grace Church in Algona with Rev. Peter Talbot officiating.  Military rites conducted by the Algona VFW Post #2541 and the Hagg-Turner American Legion Hagg-Turner Post #90 of Algona.  Burial took place at Riverview Cemetery on July 4, 2017, at 1 p.m. Visitation was held on Sunday, July 2, 2017 from 3-5 p.m., at Lentz Funeral Home in Algona.
Merle Luverne Teeter, son of Vern and Elaine (Christensen) Teeter was born April 29, 1932 in Algona, at home. He attended country schools and graduated from Algona High School in 1950. In January of 1952, Merle enlisted in the United States Air Force serving during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged in January of 1956. On Nov. 10, 1956, Merle married Myrna Jennings in Algona. Merle was a farmer and also worked as a mechanic for Buscher Brothers Implement. Merle was a devoted member of Grace Church. He loved spending time with his family and friends. Merle especially enjoyed his grandchildren, watching Twins baseball games, eating ice cream and sitting on his front porch watching the world go by.
Merle is survived by his wife of 60 years, Myrna Teeter of Algona; his children, Sherry (Robert Steffan) Pleas of Houston, Texas, Larry (Al Salinas) Teeter of Portland, Ore., Mark Teeter of Rural Valley, Pa., Robert (Tracy) Teeter of Mason City,  James (Chantel) Teeter of Algona and Sheila (Michael Waytenick) Smart of West Des Moines; 11 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; brothers, Harold Teeter of Euless, Texas and Kenneth (Clara) Teeter of Janesville, Wis., along with many cousins and other relatives. His parents preceded him in death.
