Bruce James Shore, 88, son of Glenn and Mertie Shore, died peacefully Jan. 20, 2017, at Capitol Living Nursing Home in Schenectady, N.Y.
He was born April 20, 1928 in Sioux City, Iowa. He grew up in Algona, graduating from Algona High School in 1945. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars, and retired as a major in 1969. After graduating from the State University in Albany, NY in 1973, he joined Schenectady Trust Co., serving as assistant treasurer and branch manager until he retired in 1986. He was an active volunteer for the Boy Scouts with Explorers and served as a board member and treasurer for Prevent Child Abuse/New York.
Bruce is survived by: his children, Laura Shore (Nancy Ota), Altamont, N.Y.; Robert (Bob) Shore, West Berne, N.Y.; Jaye Shore (Frederick) Freyer, Eastchester, N.Y.; Donald Shore, Rock City Falls, N.Y.; and Margaret Shore (William) Ill., Berkeley Heights, N.J.; grandchildren: Harrison Tyler Shore, Frederick Jason Freyer, Brendan Ill., Sarah Illis, Peter Illis, and Kathryn Ill.; his godson, Victor Tomelden; and siblings: William Spencer Shore, Clifford (Shirley) Shore, Mary (Jarrold) Moon and Caroline (George) Tharp.
He was preceded in death by: his parents, Glenn and Mertie, and his birth-mother, Esther Currier Shore; his wife, Harriett Hobble Shore; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Shore; daughter-in-law, Linda Ellett; and his brother, Jesse A. Shore.
Internment with full military honors was held Jan. 27 at Gerald B.H. Soloman Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, N.Y.
A memorial service for him and his brother, Jesse, will be held at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Algona on Saturday, June 24 at 2 p.m.
