A funeral service was held for Louise McFarland at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 17, 2017, at First United Methodist Church, Algona, with the Rev. Mike Orthel and the Rev. Verlyn Schaap officiating. Visitation was held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, March 16, 2017, at Oakcrest Funeral Services, Algona. Interment was in the Burt Township Cemetery.
P. Louise McFarland, the daughter of Seymour and Ruth E. (Powell) Rusk, was born on Nov. 16, 1923, Viroqua, Wis. Growing up she attended a country school.
On Sept. 14, 1952, she married Darrell “Mac” McFarland at the Burt United Methodist Church. The couple moved to Algona then onto Des Moines, Newton, Burt and returned to Algona in 1975. Louise worked taking care of children as a day care provider for many years.
She was a member of the Burt United Methodist Church where she was a member of the U.M.W. circle and taught Sunday school. She later became a member of the First United Methodist Church, Algona, when she and her family moved there in 1975. Louise also stayed active outside of church serving as a Den Mother for Boy Scouts. Louise also enjoyed roller skating and riding motorcycles.
Louise McFarland, of Algona, died Monday, March 13, 2017, Sergeant Bluff. She was 93 years old.
She is survived by her son, David (Terry) McFarland of Sergeant Bluff, daughter, Marlene (Darrell) Davis of Algona; six grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; three great-great grandchild; siblings; Bonnie (Louie) Lewis, Larry (Peggy) Rusk and Donny Rusk; brothers-in-law, Dean Hall and Paul Bishop, sister-in-law, Ruth (Laurence) Riedel, as well as many other family and friends.
Louise was preceded in death by her parents; Husband Darrell in 2013; granddaughter, Londa Davis; siblings, Elaine Hall, Jerry (Cele) Rusk, Clarence “Johnny” Rusk, Dorothy Bishop, Carol Rusk and Shirley; Rusk half-brother, Gene Gilbert and half-sister Marcia Gilbert
