ALGONA — A funeral service for Linda Becker was held on Saturday, Feb. 4, 2017, at 10:30 a.m., at Trinity Lutheran Church with the Rev. Thomas Schlund officiating. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, Algona.
Linda Marie Becker was born on June 2, 1942, in Algona, daughter of Randall S. and Elfrieda C. (Paetz) Clark. She was raised on a farm near Algona graduating from Algona High School. Linda married Jerry “Jake” Becker on June 4, 1960, in Winner, S.D. 
Following their marriage, Linda and Jake lived in St. Joe for seven years before returning to Algona. She worked at the Algona Community School System from 1972 until 1980, and then for Algona Publishing until 1988. She then worked as a pre-need counselor at Oakcrest Funeral Services and then owned and operated Merle Norman Cosmetics until her retirement. Linda was an artist and actively encouraged the appreciation of the arts in Iowa. She enjoyed interior decorating, drawing, sewing, painting, and writing.
Linda served as the Mayor of Algona for three terms from 1992-1998. She was also active in the Chamber of Commerce serving on the board, the Algona Ambassadors and she was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She also served on the Association of Local Arts Agency and the Stinson Prairie Arts Counsel.
Linda M. Becker died Tuesday, Jan. 31, at Good Samaritan Society Algona at the age of 74.
She is survived by her husband, Jake Becker of Algona; three children, Timothy Becker and his wife, Melanie of Minneapolis, Minn., Kathy Scanlon and her husband, Mike of Corvallis, Ore., and Blane Becker and his wife, Becky of Algona; six grandchildren, Alec and Amalie Becker, Alexandra Barton and her husband, Kyler, J.J. Scanlon and Sturling and Skylar Becker; and one great-grandson, Rhys Barton.  She is also survived by a sister, Sara Cogar of Rochester, Minn., a brother, Matthew Clark of Algona; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.
