Funeral services for Jean Brandow will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 28, 2017, at the First United Methodist Church with Reverend Mike Orthel officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday, April 27, 2017, at Oakcrest Funeral Services in Algona.
Jean Brandow was born Aug. 20, 1948, in Charles City, the daughter of Daniel and Marjorie (Darby) Miller. She grew up in Rockford and attended school there until her junior year when the family moved to Greene. She graduated from the Greene High School in 1966 and then went on to attend Hamilton Business College in Mason City. After her schooling she worked as a dental assistant and then at Morel Jewelers as a bookkeeper.
On March 21, 1971, Jean was united in marriage to Roger Brandow at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. After their marriage they lived in Algona and Rog and Jean owned and operated the European Tan Spa for 13 years. She later worked at Murphy Family Farms in the office before going to work at Northwest Bank in Algona, retiring in 2013.
Jean loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and supporting them in their many school events and activities. She enjoyed spoiling her dog, Scooter and always had a smile and kind word so share. She was a member of the Soroptomist Club and the United Methodist Church.
Jean passed away on Friday, April 21, 2017, in the CCU at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa in Mason City surrounded by her family. She was 68.
She is survived by her son, Jeff Brandow and wife Kathy of Cumming and grandchildren, Jordan and Kael. Also surviving are sisters, Judy Lau of Greene and Jan Schweiger of Allison along with several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Roger on May 18, 2011; sons, Michael and Timothy in infancy and a sister, JoAnne Uhlenhopp.
