Dec. 29, 1960 — June 20, 2017

BURT — A funeral service for Janice Hoover was held on Saturday, June 24, 2017, at 10:30 a.m., at Ramsey Reformed Church in rural Titonka.
Janice Kay Hoover was born on Dec. 29, 1960, to Herman and Wilda (Schutter) Ubben. She was raised on their family farm. Janice was baptized and confirmed at Ramsey Reformed Church rural Titonka. She was the second of six children. There was always activity going on at the Ubben farm. Her family was blessed to have cousins living on the same farm. Those times together made for great family memories.
Janice attended Titonka High School and graduated in 1979. Following graduation, Janice attended Mankato Commercial College and started working at Buchanan Law Office in Algona, Iowa in 1980. Janice was married to Ted S. Hoover on Aug. 27, 1983, at Ramsey Reformed Church. Janice and Ted made their home on a farm in rural Burt where they raised their two sons, Ryan and Brad.
Janice continued to work at Buchanan Law Office until 1988 when she stayed home to raise her two young boys. She returned to work in 1996 and retired in April of 2016. Janice enjoyed her work with the many clients that she met through the years. Janice was a lifelong member of Ramsey Reformed Church and served her Lord by following in her father’s footsteps teaching Catechism to the young children of the church. She also taught Sunday School and was a member of the Ramsey Church Women of the church. Janice’s faith was of utmost importance to her and she would engage in Biblical conversations with anyone. She and her father discussed the Bible often.
Janice learned the art of quilting and enjoyed spending many hours of quilting by herself, with her family and with her many quilting friends. She also loved to scrapbook and spent many hours making scrapbooks for her two sons. Her friends were an immense joy to her. They had many rendezvous to various tea shops, Oronoco shopping trips and many shopping trips in general. They always enjoyed their coffee time together.
Janice truly enjoyed being involved in her two sons’ lives. From little league baseball to middle school sports to high school sports, she was always there supporting them. Her sons learned to be the adults they are because of the role model she was for them. Her greatest joy was seeing each of her sons get married. In September 2016, she became a Grandma and it was a role she cherished.
Janice was able to overcome many trials and tribulations throughout her life. She was pregnant with Ryan when diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 1985. She survived two bouts of the lymphoma and was proud to have lived cancer free for 22 years. In the last several years, her health concerns increased but she continued to fight through them for the love of her family.
Janice went to spend eternity with her Lord and Savior on June 20, 2017, at the age of 56 years with her family by her side.
She is survived by her husband, Ted S. Hoover; her sons, Ryan, his wife, Jayna, and their daughter Hayes of Ankeny, Iowa, and Brad and his wife, Brittany, of Algona, Iowa. Her surviving siblings are Ann (Dave) Walker of Algona; Susan (Tom) Portner of Mount Vernon, Ill.; Sherman (Lesia) Ubben of Traer; Betty (Don) Czowiecki of Melrose Park, Ill.; and Robert Ubben of Titonka. She is also survived by her mother-in-law and father-in-law, JoAnne and Ted Hoover, Jr. of Algona; sister-in-law, Sandy Hoover, of Algona; brother-in-law, Terry (Lynne) Hoover, of Algona; and sister-in-law, Conna (Craig) Roesler, of Waseca, Minn., as well as many nieces and nephews.
