A memorial Mass for James Heiderscheidt will take place on Friday at 1:30 p.m., at St. Cecelia Catholic Church with the Rev. Edward M. Girres and Rev. Mr. Bill Black officiating. His family will greet friends from 12:30 p.m., until time of the Mass at the church. Private family inurnment with military honors conducted by the Whittemore American Legion will take place at Calvary Cemetery, Algona.
James John “Heider” Heiderscheidt was born May 24, 1936, on the family farm near Algona, son of Michael and Margaret (Wagner) Heiderscheidt. He graduated from St. Cecelia Academy, Algona in 1954 and then served his country in the U.S. Air Force, being stationed with the 319 Fighter Group at Bunker Hill Air Force Base.
Jim was married to Margaret Terwilliger on April 23, 1960, to this union three children were born. He worked as a mechanic and later was the janitor and bus driver for St. Michael’s Catholic Church and School in Whittemore. Jim was an avid golfer and he enjoyed bowling. He loved being with his family especially with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was an active member of the Whittemore American Legion, St. Cecelia Catholic Church and the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus.
James J. Heiderscheidt died Monday, May 1, 2017 at Good Samaritan Society, Algona at the age of 80.
He is survived by three children, Terrie (Lonnie) Shipler, Dale Heiderscheidt, and Jo (John) Morgan all of Algona; six grandchildren, Jamie (Damon) O’Neall, Sara Abbas, Tyler (Karyn) Morgan, Nick (Becca Phillips) Heiderscheidt, Lindsey Heiderscheidt, and Megan Heiderscheidt; seven great-grandchildren, Jagger and Javelin O’Neall, Braelynn, Dreyson, Keygan and Addisyn Morgan, and Nixon Heiderscheidt; and a sister-in-law, Mildred Heiderscheidt of Grimes.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Larry Heiderscheidt; and a nephew, Duane Heiderscheidt.
