Bruce A. Schutjer, 70, of rural Woden, passed away Monday, Aug. 26, 2024, from injuries sustained in a UTV accident near his farm.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 31 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Woden, with Pastor John Heille officiating. Burial was at Bingham Township Cemetery south of Woden.

A Funeral Mass for Dan Hanig, of Des Moines formerly of Wesley, was held at 10:30 a.m.  on Friday, Aug. 30, 2024, at Divine Mercy Parish - St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wesley. Visitation was held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 29 at Divine Mercy Parish - St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wesley. Burial was held after the mass at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Wesley.

Vesta Marie Berglund was born in a rural farmhouse near Slayton, Minn., the first of three children to Arthur and Melba Carney on Dec. 18, 1935. Vesta grew up on her parents’ family farm north of Lake Wilson, Minn. She attended school in Lake Wilson and was baptized at Lake Wilson First Methodist Church.

Rose June Olson, 96, of Humboldt, formerly of Bode, passed away on Wednesday morning, Aug. 21, 2024, in the Long Term Care Unit of the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital.

Steven Newbrough passed away peacefully at his home on August 7, 2024, surrounded by his family after a yearlong battle with pancreatic cancer. Son of Fritz and Deke Newbrough of Lake City. Steve was 71 years old.

A funeral service for Deona Simpson, 93, of Algona, was  held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 24, 2024, at First United Methodist Church in Algona. Burial followed at Riverview Cemetery in Algona. Visitation was  one hour prior to the funeral service, at First United Methodist Church in Algona.

Carol Hagg, 83 of Algona, passed away Friday, Aug. 23, 2024, at MercyOne Medical Center in Des Moines. Carol’s family will be hosting a Celebration of Life at Water’s Edge Nature Center at Smith Lake in Algona on Sunday, Sept. 8 from 12 to 3 p.m. There will be a service officiated by Rev. A funeral service for Ted Abbas, of Bancroft, will be held Saturday, Aug. 24, 2024, at 10 a.m. at Ramsey Reformed Church in rural Titonka. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors conducted. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23, at Oakcrest Funeral Services of Bancroft and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.

Big Man - Big Life

Steven H. Studer, son of Julius P. and Minnie (Willemina) H. Studer, nee Scheppmann, was born on April 4, 1945, in Algona. Steve was the 11th child and was followed by three  younger siblings. He died at home in Irwin under hospice care on Aug. 5, 2024, at age 79.

Becky Ellen Rengstorf, 76, of Britt, passed away July 26, 2024. Becky was born in Eagle Grove on Jan. 20, 1948, to Mardell and Janie Rengstorf.

The family later moved to Colorado Springs, Colo. where Becky would grow up, attend school and meet her future husband.

A funeral service for Geraldine “Gerry” Weishaar was held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2024, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Algona. Visitation was held one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial took place at Riverview Cemetery in Algona following the funeral service.

Carole Welp, 89, of Chandler, Ariz., formerly of Bancroft, died Thursday evening, July 25, 2024, at her home in Chandler, Ariz. A funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 17 at Divine Mercy Parish-St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Bancroft. Burial will follow at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in Bancroft. Her family will greet friends on Friday, Aug. 16, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Oakcrest Funeral Services of Bancroft.
