A funeral service for Marilynne will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 27, 2023, at First United Methodist Church in Algona with Pastor Russ Jacobsen officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at the church. A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 27 at Elmwood Cemetery in Mason City.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First United Methodist Church, Algona, in Marilynne’s name.
Marilynne Marcelle (Olson) Kroeze was born May 28, 1932, on a farm northwest of Ventura, the daughter of Emmett and Luella (Tanner) Olson. She grew up in the Ventura/Clear Lake area and graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1949.
On Aug. 20, 1954, she was united in marriage to Martin J. Kroeze and to that union three daughters were born, Marcay, Manita, and Melinda. Martin and Marilynne later divorced.
Marilynne worked at the Holiday Inn, waitressing and bartending for several years. She then worked at A.C. Nielsen as a data entry specialist until her retirement in the early 1990’s.
Marilynne enjoyed the simple pleasures in life. She had a talent for crocheting and her love for playing cards brought laughter to the gatherings. Marilynne was a passionate sports enthusiast, with a special place in her heart for football and basketball. In her younger years, Marilynne enjoyed dancing at the Surf Ballroom and after retirement worked there part-time. She cherished spending time with her children and grandchildren. Marilynne was a warm and welcoming individual, known for opening her home to both family and friends, where she generously provided hospitality and a sense of belonging to all who entered. Marilynne’s faith was also a huge part of her life.
At the age of 91, surrounded by her family, Marilynne was called by her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, Oct. 22 at Mercy Medical Center in Mason City. She will be missed by many.
She is survived by her daughters, Marcay Hansen, Manita Murphy, Melinda (Donald) Zeimet; grandchildren, Israel Cabrera, Romel Cabrera, Jael (Josh) Kuster, Abbey Studer (Mark Mesle), Matthew (Julia) Studer, Joshua (Amanda) Fischer, Molly (Tristan) Brown and Kelly Zeimet; great-grandchildren, Angela, Carter, Lincoln, Cora, Parker, Charley, Maeve, Emerson, Sophia, Zander, Malia, and Treyson. Marilynne is also survived by brothers, Don (Donna) Olson, Leonard (Susan) Olson; brother-in-law, Gary Kroeze; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death are her parents; her grandson, Addison Fischer; and her sister, A. Verlynne Kern, and her husband, Monte Kern, Sr.
