Irene Bormann, age 85 of Lu Verne, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2023, at the Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona. Mass of Christian Burial was Monday, Sept. 4 at 10:30 a.m. at Divine Mercy Catholic Parish - St. Joseph Catholic Church in St. Joe. Burial took place at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in St. Joe. Visitation was Sunday, Sept. 3 from 3 to 5 p.m. with a Catholic Daughters of America Rosary starting at 2:30 p.m. at Divine Mercy Parish - St. Joseph Catholic Church in St. Joe. Services were entrusted with Lentz Funeral Home of Algona.

Irene Elizabeth Blocker, the daughter of Arthur and Emma (Hoffmann) Blocker, was born on July 6, 1938, in Bancroft. In 1956, she graduated from St. John’s High School in Bancroft. After graduation, Irene worked as a clerk and manager for the grocery store in Bancroft and then as a receptionist for Dr. T.J. Eagan in Bancroft. On Nov. 29, 1969, Irene was united in marriage with Leo Bormann at St. John’s Catholic Church in Bancroft. Irene and Leo farmed and raised their family near Lu  Verne.

Irene was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in St. Joseph, Catholic Daughters of America, card clubs and had volunteered her time as a 4-H leader in the past. She enjoyed bowling, sewing and quilting, making quilts for her grandchildren when they were born.  Irene also enjoyed attending her children and grandchildren’s activities and events at Bishop Garrigan High School.

Left to cherish Irene’s memory is her husband of 53 years, Leo; children, Dale (Jenny) Bormann of Manhattan, Kan., Dean (Becky) Bormann, Lu Verne, Lorna Bormann of Waterloo and Steve (Jenna) Bormann of Bode; 10 grandchildren; and siblings, Robert Blocker of Bancroft and Dorothy (Jerry) Hart of Elkhart, Ind. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters-in-law, Rita Blocker, Beatrice Capesius and Patricia Bormann; brothers-in-law, Ralph Bormann, Robert Kirsch and James Capesius; and niece, Susie Capesius.
