Calvin “Cal” Haug, age 71 of Ottosen, passed away Monday, March 20, 2023, at his home. Funeral services were held on Friday, March 24 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in West Bend. Visitation was held on Thursday from 4 until 7 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in West Bend. Lentz Funeral Home of West Bend is assisting the family. Calvin Orren Haug, son of Olvin and Marilyn (Kinseth) Haug, was born on Nov. 23, 1951, in Fort Dodge. Cal was part of the graduating class of 1970 from Bode High School. Cal received a football scholarship to Buena Vista College where he attended for one year before transferring to Iowa State University for Ag Business. After two years at Iowa State University, Cal came home to farm with his dad on the family farm south of West Bend where he became the third generation to farm until the 1980s. Cal worked for the Ottosen Elevator for 30 plus years and retired in 2021.

On June 12, 1981, Cal was united in marriage to Pam Schuller at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in West Bend. Together they raised their two children: Mike and Jessica. His children and grandchildren were his pride and joy. In his earlier years, Cal was a 4-H leader, a coach for his kids sports and played league softball. He loved all sports and you could find him cheering on the Green Bay Packers and Iowa State Cyclones. He was on the Humboldt County Assessor’s Board and was member of the Humboldt County Cattlemen. Cal was an avid cattleman and was known as the “Man With A Big Heart.”

Left to cherish Cal’s memory are his wife of 41 years, Pam; children: Mike (Melissa) Haug and their children: Colton and Caden of Gowrie and Jessica (James) Hendricks and their children: Avery and Cole of Urbandale. He was preceded in death by his parents: Olvin and Marilyn Haug.
