Dawson Williamson
Sierra Ross and Jacob Williamson of Britt are the proud parents of a baby boy, Dawson, born Thursday, Feb. 5, at Kossuth Regional Health Center. He weighed 7 pounds, 13.9 ounces and was 19.75 inches long at birth. Maternal grandparents are Shawn and Stacey Ross of Britt. Paternal grandparents are Donna Debaun and Robert Williamson of Iowa Falls. Sierra and Jacob both work at Winnebago, Ind.

Housing ‘definite’ issue in county

ALGONA — After three hours of discussion, many came away with the feeling that Kossuth County has a housing issue.
“I think there was a lot of very good, substantial information that was given from the communities and our business leaders that housing is definitely an issue,” said Kossuth/Palo Alto County Economic Development Corporation Executive Director Maureen Elbert. “It is an impact in our area. It sounds very strong that we’re lacking in housing rental available.”

Buscher Bros. stays in family

ALGONA — Buscher Bros. is staying in the family.
On Sept. 30, John Buscher, and his wife, Tammie, took over the operation on Main Street, from his cousin, Terry Buscher and his wife, Liz. Terry’s father, Dick and uncle, Gib started the business in 1955. Terry Buscher took over the operation in 1994.
“I’ve been here 20 years and I like this place,” John Buscher said. “My dad worked here and it would be nice to keep the business in the family.”

Community center packed for steak fry

WESLEY — Seating was set up for 200 or more people at the annual Wesley Steak Fry on Saturday evening in the Wesley Community Center. An hour into the Wesley Fire Department fundraiser, the seats were filled and people were waiting in line to have either a steak or hamburger.
“I think this is a great event,” said Stanley and Pam Klein, who drove from LuVerne to have a steak meal. “People come from other areas to help support our community fire departments.”

National FFA Week starting on Saturday

National FFA Week is slated to begin on Saturday, Feb. 18, ending on George Washington’s Birthday on Feb. 25. 
Chapters from across the country participate in events to promote agricultural education and careers and increase a passion for agriculture. 
The Algona High School chapter is scheduled to participate in many events in the upcoming week.

Nathan and Amy (Delhanty) Hamilton of Titonka are the proud parents of a baby girl, Madison Janet, born Tuesday, Jan. 24, at Kossuth Regional Health Center. She weighed 7 pounds, 12 ounces and was 21.5 inches long at birth. Maternal grandparents are Becky and Craig Delhanty of Austin, Minn. Paternal grandmother is Karen Hamilton of Titonka. Nathan is employed at Winnebago.

RAGBRAI to roll through Algona

It is official. The Registers Annual Great Bike Race Across Iowa (RAGBRAI) is coming to Algona. Thousands of riders will roll into Algona on Monday, July 24 visiting the sites and spending the night before heading to Clear Lake the next day.

ALGONA—Rosie, a goat, spent part of the day at Bishop Garrigan on Thursday, Feb. 2, resting in the principal’s office, being carried down hallways and standing in the gym. 
Maggie Bode, a lunchroom staff member, brought in the goat for the Catholic Schools Week Spirit Day Pep Rally. 

Sword donation recalls Marine Corps Legacy

Lakota holds a Marine Corps legacy. During the late 1950s and early 1960s, Lakota saw a large number of its young men join the U.S. Marine Corps. 

“It was the snowball effect,” said Marine Corps veteran, Garry Spear. 

Two Marines from Elmore, Minn. were on leave and promised a week extension if they found other men to enlist. Soon five joined and then six more and the rest was history, stated Spear one of the original six men to enlist. 

Bringing talents to the green screen

LUVERNE — Sixth-grade students are using a green screen to add some excitement to learning about Social Studies at the LuVerne Community School District.

‘Achin for Bacon’ delivers as promised

ALGONA — Two weeks ago Algona Area Chamber of Commerce Ambassador Rodney Davis admitted that he was a little nervous because ticket sales for the first-ever ‘Achin for Bacon’ event were slow. 
The People’s Choice winner for the evening was Johnny’s from Wesley. Johnny’s provided chicken wings and legs wrapped in bacon. Kristy Riggert and Yane Nielsen Elbert were serving the chicken wings and legs.

Maternal grandparents are Jerry and Marla Reding of Wesley. Paternal grandparents are Darrell and Deb Schumacher of Fort Dodge. Great grandparents are Jean Grandgenett of Wesley and Helen Faber of Ruthven.
