Grant Hilbert grew up in Ankeny but spent summers and breaks from school on his grandparents’ Algona farm. Those experiences shaped his yearning to become a farmer, but he had no means to become a part of the family operation.

100 Chinese students in Muscatine?

The Algona Model UN team has achieved a lot so far this year. Model UN is, in essence, a live action roleplay as the United Nations. They discuss a variety of international issues from the perspective of a selected country or countries. The goal of this practice is to come up with a cooperative and mutually beneficial solution to these problems, hopefully with more efficiency than the real United Nations.

A year in harmony

The choir has participated in various events, including concerts, festivals and competitions so far this school year. In Sept. 13 students attended the State Clinic and two students submitted recordings for an honor choir audition.  Twenty-three students also had the opportunity to audition for Shrek the Musical.

Fueling Bulldogs

The Bark House is an entrepreneurial opportunity AHS students get to experience through the class Bulldog Bites, with Mrs. Louwagie. The class is made up of 12 students, mainly juniors and seniors, with a few sophomores sprinkled in as well. Throughout the one term class, students learn how to market, manage, and produce goods sold to students and staff at Algona High School.

Kossuth County Conservation Board Accepting Camping and Shelter Reservations for 2025

The Kossuth County Conservation Board (KCCB) is accepting camping and shelter reservations for the 2025 season. All camping and shelter reservations must be made online at mycountyparks.com/County/Kossuth.  Once on the site select the “Facilities” link.  You can then browse through the listing of facilities offered and select the desired facility you wish to reserve.

Becky Bormann and Justin Heldorfer of Bancroft announce the birth of their son, Case Philip on January 22, 2025 at the Kossuth Regional Health Center.

He weighed 8 pounds, 12 ounces and was 21 inches long.

The Algona Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution  (DAR) does not hold meetings during December and January according to the schedule of the Iowa Society DAR. They continue to  recognize the Veteran funerals that occur during this time.
