Baker Thomas Bjustrom

Brad and Mariah (Shipman) Bjustrom of Whittemore announce the birth of their son, Baker Thomas on December 30, 2024 at the Kossuth Regional Health Center.

He weighed 8 pounds, 1 ounce and was 19 inches long. Maternal grandparents are Jeff and Ann Shipman of Wesley. Paternal grandparents are Tom and Linda Bjustrom of Whittemore. Great-grandmother is Marlys Bjustrom of Algona.

Baker joins brother Brooks.

Blue Blood Drive

LifeServe Blood Center is asking community members to show their support for local law enforcement Jan. 6-11, 2025, during the blood center’s annual Blue Blood Drive.

Fertilizer and finance workshop

ALGONA—Iowa State University (ISU) Extension and Outreach will host a Fertilizer and Finance Workshop on Jan. 29 from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Buffalo Creek Activity Center, located at 543 Dieckman St NE., Titonka.

The workshop will provide participants with valuable insights into maximizing fertilizer dollars amidst tight crop margins and understanding soil test results to make phosphorus, potassium, and lime decisions on their farm.

Blue Earth Valley Quilters

The January meeting of the Blue Earth Valley Quilters 2024-25 program year will be Monday, January 20th at 7 pm.  They will meet in the Media Center of the Blue Earth Area High School, entering through Door C. The meeting will begin with introductions and show and tell, always inspiring and fun. Please bring any quilt related Christmas gifts as well as new finishes for show and tell. The program will be a trivia game created by Corinne and Marge.

Sewing workshop canceled

The adult sewing workshop scheduled for this Thursday, Jan. 9 at the Algona Public Library, has been canceled.

GrandStay Hotel & Suites opens

ALGONA—The doors were officially opened on Friday, January 12 to welcome guests to the new GrandStay Hotel & Suites of Algona. Details on a grand opening for the 57 guest room hotel, located at 840 Hwy 18 W., will be announced at a later date. The hotel is locally owned by Pharmacists Mutual Insurance Company.

New librarian in Fenton

Jenette Bush, commonly known as Jenny, grew up in Elk River, Minn.  and moved to Phoenix, Ariz. her senior year of high school. Occupational child care was her major. She met her husband through her sister, Diane Jorgensen, the Ringsted library director. They have four children. They moved to Ringsted in 2006 to be near Jenny’s parents. Bush worked part time as a teacher's aide for pre-K in Armstrong and at the former Ringsted Elementary.

Tribute to Henry

Artist Dan LeBlanc has been wanting to draw a picture of Santa for Henry Ricke for a long time. LeBlanc got to know Ricke from working at Snap-on together and has always admired how much Ricke did for his community, family and friends. Ricke has a large collection of Santas and he and his wife Jan have given tours of their home at Christmas time while their vast collection of Christmas items fill every nook and cranny of their home.

Looking for owner of abandoned vehicle

The Algona Police Department is looking for the owner of a 1997 Pontiac Bonneville. The car is being held at Main Street Towing. If you are the owner or know where the owner might be, please contact Chief Bo Miller at the Algona Police department.
