The Algona Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution meeting was called to order on Feb. 12, 2025, by Regent Teri Miller.

The March meeting of the Blue Earth Valley Quilters 2024-25 program year will be Monday, March 17 at 7 p.m.  They  will meet in the Media Center of the Blue Earth Area High School. Please enter through Door C. The meeting will begin with introductions and show and tell, always inspiring and fun. The Barn Star quilt along group will show their blocks and decide on the block for March. The program will be Stash to Cash.

The Euchre results for Tuesday, March 4 at Pep’s are:

First place - Nick and Nolan Ford with 55.

Second place - Sandy and Tammie Buscher with 49.

Third place - Zach Keith and Landon Ludwigwith 47.

Most loners - Tie between Tammie Buscher and Nick Ford with four.

The door prize went to Kevin McPeak and Cole Lewis.

The City will host a public informational meeting on Thursday, March 13 at 6 p.m.  at the Algona Public Library in Conference Room A. This meeting is for residents in the blue, yellow and green sectors indicated on the map. The meeting will cover the need for the program, inspection scheduling, proper sewer connections and other related topics. Meeting attendance is not required.

On Feb. 24, 2025, the Kossuth County Sheriff's Office took a report of a subject from the Burt area that was the victim of a scam. The Sheriff's Office and Algona PD put out information regarding a grandparent scam where the victim is told over the phone that a grandchild is in some type of trouble and needs bond money to be released from jail.

A contractor has been chosen for exterior renovations to the Algona Public Library.

The Algona City Council on Feb. 19 voted unanimously to approve bids by Kingland Construction Services of Forest City for work on the outside of the library, 210 N. Phillips St. Kingland submitted a base of $734,000 with a lower-cost option of $646,000.

Fourteen rescue vehicles in Kossuth County will be outfitted with child safety restraints.

The Kossuth County EMS plans to purchase 13 ACR4 ambulance child restraints with funds from a grant and money from the Kossuth County EMS Association.

The Algona City Council received an update in December about construction progress at the wastewater treatment facility. This historic and complex project is aimed at meeting the new standards of the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR), replacing aging equipment and increasing the flow and loading capacity of the plant.

The Algona Welcome Center celebrated 20 years of service in the downtown and recent updates to the interior space with a Chamber of Commerce coffee on Feb. 7.

The Welcome Center opened in December of 2005 and has since served as a place for both residents and travelers to take a quick break, learn about upcoming events and access public restrooms downtown.

A ribbon cutting was held for RS Home during the chamber coffee on Friday, Feb. 28. The building was once home to Diamonds and later Osweiler’s. Kimberly Kollasch and her husband, Ron purchased the building and did extensive renovations before relocating their business from Whittemore.

The store offers a variety of home decor items, decorations, candles, foliage, kitchen items, paper products and restored furniture.

The Kossuth County Pork Producers donated $1,000 worth of pork to the Kossuth County Food Pantry. This is the fourth year they have helped to make sure no one goes hungry in Kossuth County.

The Pork in the Pantry program provides funding to the county organizations for pork donations to local food pantries. The program  runs from Jan. 21 to March 23, 2025.

A 21-Gun Salute Bingo Fundraiser, sponsored by Moving Veteran’s Forward of North Central Iowa, was held at the Whittemore Community Center on Saturday, Feb. 1. More than 300 people showed up to show their support for Veterans. The event was supported by the Seely-Walsh Post #425 of the American Legion. Shown in the foreground on the left is Moving Vererans Forward Director John Emswiler helping a player.

Children invited someone special to attend the West Bend Public Library Story Hour Valentine Party with them.
