Larry Albert Gibbs of Sioux Falls, S.D., passed away May 11, 2017 at the Sioux Falls VA Medical Center.
A funeral service was held 10 a.m., Monday, May 15, 2017 at Memorial Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls.
Larry was born May 8, 1942, to Roy and Hazel (Tabor) Gibbs in Boone. He was baptized at the United Methodist Church in Boone in 1942. He was confirmed into Lutheran Faith at College Hill Lutheran Church in 1966. In 1960 Larry graduated from Boone High School. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1960-1964, being stationed in France and India. From 1964-1966 he attended Boone Junior College and from 1966 to 1968, he attended and graduated from University of Northern Iowa. Larry married Carolyn Rochleau on Dec. 26, 1966, in Algona. They had one son, Mark. They divorced in 1989.
Larry was employed in personnel management by Lutheran Mutual Life Insurance form 1968-1975 in Waverly, Schwans Sales Enterprises from 1975-1995 in Marshall, Minn. He spent much of his retirement near the water, in Outing, Minn., Okoboji and Spirit Lake and in Florida, most recently spending winters in Texas. Larry enjoyed nearly all sports, participating in hunting, fishing and golf. All of his vacations were near the water, and favorite being Roosevelt Lake, Emily, Minn. He especially loved his granddaughters and teasing them along with his dog, Zoey.
He is survived by his son, Mark (Laura), Sioux Falls; granddaughters, Stephanie and Brianna; brother, David (Barb), Ogden; numerous nieces and nephews and special friend, Marlene Wassenaar and ex-wife Carolyn Schuller. He was preceded in death by parents, sister Rosalie and a nephew Jeff.www.heritagesfsd.com.
