June Rae Steward was born on May 7, 1940 in Burt, the daughter of Harold and Lottie (Hawcott). June attended LifeWorks Community Services for many years and worked for Friendship Haven for 15 years as a dishwasher. June loved working and was not fond of retirement. She continued to attend LifeWorks connections program.
Family and friends were very important to June and she loved spending time with them. June found joy in time spent with her second family, the Matthes’. Nothing was more important to June than celebrating birthdays together with them. June also had a very special relationship with her roommate, Bonnie. June loved her birthday, iced tea, coffee, Subway, Doritos Tortilla Chips and the Iowa Hawkeyes. June was an active member of the Salvation Army Church in Fort Dodge.
June died, Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at Unity Point Hospice, Fort Dodge. She was 77.
She is survived by her brother, Richard Steward of Burt; roommate and very special friend, Bonnie Dooley of Fort Dodge; nephew, Richard Steward Jr. of Burt, step-nephew, Jerry McFarland of Fenton; sisters-in-law, Lois Shipler of Burt, Mary Gifford of Burt; brothers-in-law, Ken McFarland of Algona, Jerry (Cheryl) McFarland of Fairmont, Minn.; and Marc, Jill, Nathan and Molly Matthes’ all of Fort Dodge.
Preceding her in death are her parents and sister-in-law, Connie.
