Gordon Baer, age 85 of Algona, passed away Thursday, April 27, 2017, at the Good Samaritan Society in Algona. Funeral services were held on Monday, May 1, 2017, at 11 a.m., at Lentz Funeral Home in Algona with Rev. Karen Dearchs officiating. Visitation was held on Sunday, May 30, from 3-5 p.m., at Lentz Funeral Home in Algona.
Gordon Dale Baer, the son of Michael and Leona (Black) Baer, was born on Aug. 7, 1931, in Burt. He attended Burt schools. In April of 1952, Gordon enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and was honorable discharged in February of 1954. Gordon was married on Oct. 3, 1955, to Barbara Ann Helmers in Luverne, Minn. He worked as a welder for Universal Mfg. Co., in Algona for 33 years until his retirement in 1995.
He was a member of the Kossuth Rifle & Pistol Association. Gordon enjoyed fishing, hunting, boating and camping. He loved to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Gordon is survived by his wife of 61 years, Barbara of Algona; sons, David (Joy) Baer of Overland Park, Kan. and Bob (Sheila) Baer of Algona; grandson, Dale Baer of Kansas City, Mo.; granddaughter, Brittany Baer of St. Paul, Minn.; great-grandson, Kasjen Baer of Kansas City, Mo.; step granddaughters, Melissa Viscek and Lauren (James) Andersen; step great-granddaughter, Blakely; sister, Marilyn Johnson of Burt and brother, Jim (Teresa) Baer of Algona.
His parents, three brothers and a sister preceded him in death.
